Dale Jacobs Trophy

LOFT Captain Joe Durston and Manager Doug Harper celebrate their win (2009)A group of Dale’s family, friends and team mates decided to play a match at Brisbane Road, the home Leyton Orient FC, to remember Dale as it was felt this was the most fitting way to pay tribute to him as well raising money for Macmillan Cancer Research. On 5 May 2008 we held our first match.  It was contested between Leyton Orient Fans' Trust and Leyton Orientear and finished 3-3, with LOFT winning on penalties. Through the game and the following auction we raised over £1,300 for charity.

The second Dale Jacobs Trophy was held at Leyton Orient on 16 May 2009. The LOFT and Leyton Orientear teams were joined by Orient Legends and promotion goals scorers Mark Cooper and Lee Steele, whilst Jabo enjoyed the game from West Side. The match passed off in excellent spirit, finishing 1-1, but with LOFT winning yet again on penalties.  The match was followed by a fantastic auction in which over £3,000 was raised.  We continued late into the night at The Birkbeck with a raffle, the legendary 6 of White and a disco; the whole event raised almost £6,500.  The generosity of Leyton Orient FC, the management at The Birkbeck, the band and DJ made it possible that we had virtually no out-goings and thus all the proceeds were donated to Macmillan.

On 15th May we will be having another match at Brisbane Road with Leyton Orientear desperately hoping for their first win. This year, Lee Harvey will be wearing the Leyton Orientear colours, whilst LOFT will be lining up with both Mark Cooper and promotion captain John Mackie. Kick off will be taken by Rev. Alan Comfort . The game will be followed by an auction in the West Stand before heading to The Birkbeck for drinking and an evenings entertainment from 6 of White and DJ John. All are most welcome and encouraged to attend. Kick off is at 1pm, and Chrissy Baxter will be on hand to entertain children with facepainting and balloon animals.
